Can I switch my appointment online?
Telehealth can be useful, but it changes some of the things that naturally happen when two people are sitting in the same room.
In person, Darrell can more easily notice body language, stay connected to what is happening in the moment, and adapt the session naturally.
That can be especially important when working with children, teens, couples, and families.
For that reason, Darrell's practice remains primarily an in-person counseling practice. Telehealth is available when it helps an established client maintain continuity through a temporary situation.
Sometimes the obstacle is temporary.
Telehealth can help keep a short-term disruption from becoming an unnecessary break in your counseling.
You're sick but well enough to meet
You may not want to bring an illness into the office, but you still feel well enough to participate meaningfully in your appointment.
You're home with a sick child
A child may need you at home even though you would otherwise be able to attend your counseling session.
You're recovering temporarily
A procedure, injury, or short-term health limitation may make getting to the office difficult for a period of time.
Something temporary changed your plans
Transportation, caregiving, short-term travel within Oklahoma, or another unusual circumstance may occasionally make an online session worth considering.

Send a message through the secure client portal as soon as you know you may need telehealth.
A brief explanation is enough. You do not need to write a long justification.
Darrell checks whether it will work
He considers whether telehealth makes sense for the counseling work planned for that day and whether an appropriate private setting is available on both sides.
Watch for confirmation
If telehealth is approved, Darrell will confirm the change and you will receive the information needed to join the secure video session.
If it is not available, you can discuss rescheduling instead.
A good telehealth session still needs a real counseling space.
It doesn't need to be fancy. It does need to be private enough for you to talk freely and focused enough for counseling to actually happen.
Age matters when deciding whether online counseling will work.
Sometimes a good fit
An established teen client may occasionally use telehealth if they can participate comfortably, have genuine privacy, and the format makes sense for what they are working on.
Usually better in person
Younger children often benefit from movement, play, activities, and the interaction available in the counseling room.
In most cases, Darrell will recommend keeping children's sessions in person.
Parent-only check-ins
For an established child client, telehealth may sometimes work well for an occasional parent-only conversation when coming to the office is temporarily difficult.
On some days when travel is difficult, telehealth may be available for an established client if Darrell has the privacy and technology needed to provide it.
A full-day Enid Public Schools weather closure is different.
On those days, telehealth is not offered because Darrell's family is also home and he cannot guarantee the private, confidential environment required for counseling.
Those appointments are cancelled rather than automatically moved online.

HealthChoice includes telehealth within its coverage rules, but your specific coverage and member responsibility depend on your individual plan and the service provided.

Can I become a new client and see Darrell entirely online?
No. Darrell's practice is primarily an in-person counseling practice, and telehealth is reserved for established clients in appropriate situations.
New-client and initial evaluation appointments are completed in person.
What does “established client” mean?
It means you have already completed the intake process with Darrell and have an existing counseling relationship with him.
If I'm sick, can I automatically switch online?
Not automatically. Telehealth may be a good option if you are well enough to participate and the format makes sense for that appointment.
Send Darrell a message through the client portal and wait for confirmation before assuming the appointment has moved online.
Can I do my session from my car?
A parked vehicle may sometimes provide privacy, but you should discuss the setting with Darrell ahead of time.
You cannot participate in a counseling session while driving.
Can I have a telehealth appointment while I'm traveling?
Only if you are physically located in Oklahoma at the time of the session and all of the other requirements for telehealth can be met.
If you will be outside Oklahoma, let Darrell know before the appointment.
Can my teen use telehealth?
Sometimes. An established teen client needs an appropriate private space, must be able to participate meaningfully, and the online format must make sense for the counseling work being done.
Does Darrell provide telehealth for younger children?
Usually not. Younger children's counseling often relies more heavily on play, movement, activities, and in-room interaction.
Darrell will generally recommend in-person counseling for younger children.
Is telehealth available when Enid Public Schools closes for weather?
Not on a full-day EPS weather closure. Those appointments are cancelled rather than automatically moved online because Darrell cannot guarantee the private environment required for counseling while his family is home.
On other weather-affected days, telehealth may sometimes be possible if an appropriate private setting is available.
